Yes!! Thanks man, hope you check out the EP!! That gear has gotten super expensive…but so has everything else lol. Thankfully I know I guy in LA who’s still got his gear from decades ago, and if you just track one person live, it’s not that expensive (by studio standards)
Absolutely dude. Great to meet you! Where in Germany are you based? I spend a lot of time in Europe (my wife’s French) and want to get more tapped into the German scene.
Cool! I work mainly in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Frankfurt. I‘m at work right now in a small town - for a comedian today. Yes, comedy exists in Germany 😁
1 quality I’ve found in albums that truly speak to the soul (vs. seemingly “uninspired” work), is when the artist strips away the hyper-personal, “me-me-me” story, and instead use a more universal story to connect with listeners. Truly appreciate how David takes that perspective when making and releasing music. Also holy crap- the perfectionism chat is SO TRUE!
Thanks so much, so anxious to do more interviews like this! Real podcast conversation stuff where you feel like you’re in the room just absorbing the info and enjoying the flow of it.
Whew I'm so glad to hear that, that was my first interview in a while and I had some nerves at first! But David is so great to talk to so once we get into the meat of the topics, it was so easy. Like talking to a good friend.
Wow thank you thank you! So appreciate you listening and chiming in! Yes, definitely agree that pointing the lens outward or at least more universally can be important. But I do also think the right artist (see Joni Mitchell for example) can be hyper specific and personal with their writing…and that specificity and vulnerability then becomes universal as well. You buy that?
well done. my first album was analog and I've grown to miss that sound. that gear has gotten expensive though...

I write about the human music business. I‘ll sub you if you sub me😁

Totally agree. When the personal becomes universal, it absolutely does not feel ego based.
Exactly!!
